was the 9th century. And it was in Ethiopia.<\/strong><\/em> A goatherd named Kaldi noticed that his bleating prot\u00e9g\u00e9s were quite jolly and playful after they had eaten some cherries from the coffee bush <em>(we doubt though, that it went by this name back then)<\/em>. To find out, if their splendid mood really came from the cherries, Kaldi \u2013 who apparently was a brave man \u2013 tried them himself and felt refreshed and awake. That is at least how it is being told since the 16th century. <em>The legend lives.<\/em><\/p><p>Slave traders were presumably the ones who widely spread the coffee. It is being said that the Yemenites operated the first <em>\u201cplantations\u201d<\/em> already in the Middle Ages, between 1300 and 1400, near Mocha <em>(nomen est omen).<\/em><\/p><p><strong>By the way: The term <em>\u201cCoffee\u201c<\/em> derives from the Arabic word <em>\u201cKabwe\u201d<\/em> or <em>\u201cQahwa\u201d<\/em>, which means as much as vitality or strength. <em>Makes sense.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-16 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-5fe2a37\" data-id=\"5fe2a37\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><b><I>There are various adventurous and crazy stories about coffee,<\/I><\/b> that you do not have to believe <I>(but you can)<\/I>, and we tell them all with increasing enthusiasm.
